data journalist

i am a computational social science assistant on the data labs team at pew research center in washington, d.c. i first joined the center in 2023 as an information graphics designer. before that, i interned with the data reporting and graphics teams at npr and chalkbeat.

as a reporter and a researcher, i've used data and documents to report on a wide array of topics, including prediction markets, hospital price negotiations, and child labor violations. i'm an r native, but increasingly, i'm using python to collect data at scale and work effectively on a bilingual coding team. i'm no stranger to picking up new tools on the job when answering important questions requires it.

as a designer, i worked closely with researchers and web developers to make important findings shine on the web. i'm also a developer on the center's R graphics package, which streamlines chartmaking in R and customizes ggplot2 to our style guide. if you're interested in doing something similar at your organization, here's the github repo from a hands-on class i have taught at nicar.
